Elder Farnsworth sighting . . .

I traveled to Salt Lake City to attend the LDS-BSA 100 year celebration tribute at the conference center.  As I was leaving the Family History Library, after doing some research, I heard, "Mother."
I then saw a surprised Elder Farnsworth.  It made my day!

October 26

I am doing FANTASTIC. I am working hard and being the best missionary
I can be. I haven't had much time to do research since Temple And
Research has been canceled since we have had the new companionship
rule. President has decided to postpone it, which I don't get, but he
is called of god to be my mission leader and to lead the mission and
we need to listen to him and obey all of the mission rules to be
blessed, and to have power over the adversary.
Alma 12:9-11
9 And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to aknow the bmysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart conly according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him.
10 And therefore, he that will aharden his heart, the same receiveth the blesser portion of the word; and he that will cnot harden his heart, to him is dgiven the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
11 And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser aportion of the word until they bknow nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the cchains of dhell.

D&C 29:29-36
"29 And now, behold, I say unto you, never at any time have I declared
from mine own mouth that they should return, for where I am they
cannot come, for they have no power.
30 But remember that all my judgments are not given unto men; and as
the words have gone forth out of my mouth even so shall they be
fulfilled, that the first shall be last, and that the last shall be
first in all things whatsoever I have created by the word of my power,
which is the power of my spirit.
31 For by the power of my Spirit created I them; yea, all things both
spiritual and temporal—
32 first spiritual, secondly temporal, which is the beginning of my
work; and again, first temporal, and secondly spiritual, which is the
last of my work—
33 speaking unto you that you may naturally understand; but unto
myself my works have no bend, neither beginning; but it is given unto
you that ye may understand, because ye have asked it of me and are
agreed.
34 Wherefore, verily I say unto you that all things unto me are
spiritual, and not at any time have I given unto you a law which was
temporal; neither any man, nor the children of men; neither Adam, your
father, whom I created.
 35 Behold, I gave unto him that he should be an agent unto himself;
and I gave unto him commandment, but no temporal commandment gave I
unto him, for my commandments are spiritual; they are not natural nor
temporal, neither carnal nor sensual.
36 And it came to pass that Adam, being tempted of the devil—for,
behold, the devil was before Adam, for he rebelled against me, saying,
Give me thine Honor, which is my power; and also a third part of the
hosts of heaven turned he away from me because of their agency;"

I know that I am doing what is right and I am going to finish what I
started. I Love where I work and I love serving at the Granite
Mountain Records Vault. I am working hard to be the best missionary I
can be. I know that the Church is true. I know that Thomas S Monson is
the Living prophet today, and that he is called of god. I know that I
am called to this mission to serve the Lord and that is where I am
staying until my two years are up.

I love you all I hope all is well.

Elder Farnsworth Update

Elder Farnsworth hasn't had much to say lately, so that's why I haven't posted any updates. Colton, Chris and Grandpa went to General Conference in early October. Michael spotted them at the Sunday morning session.

He also saw a newly returned missionary from Boise - Nate VanRoosendaal.

I love the picture of molly eating her steak. Did you take her to Parma with you? How are things going with school? Tell Tyler good luck for me and to run his best. I love all of you and I am so proud of each one of you. Keep up the GREAT WORK. I love and thank you for taking Extremely GREAT Care of MY WALDO, BEAST, BLACK BAT, MOLLY, AND MY SLEEPING BUDDY. I'm grateful that she is enjoying herself. I am still wondering if grandpa wants to come down next fall and have a Barbecue at the Vault?
I am doing great and am loving the vault. I went to the doctor this last week and he said I dislocated my finger from my hand and he wanted me to get an X-ray to make sure I didn't break anything off with it. Before I got the x-ray I popped it back in. That hurt pretty bad but I am doing a lot better. It still hurts but it is healing. I am working my hardest. I love everyone that I work with. Some are a struggle. I always feel like I am the mediator at the vault between the young elders because one of the elders is really hard to work with. I work with him anyway. He apparently makes the other elders mad and they talk bad about him when he isn't around. So I stick up for him and tell them to grow up and they don't really like that. If they still have a problem with it then I go and talk to Elder and Sister Neel. It has only gone that far once, but I work with them to help everyone be happy. I love who I work with, even though it is frustrating at times. I hope all is well.

August 24, 2013

I am doing great. I am working hard to get up on time and go running
before the vault. Today was the first time in 3 weeks I haven't been
up before 5:30 am but it is my Temple and Research day. I will be
working on trying to figure out where Leo James Gonyer was born and
who his parents are.  I found a census record that says Leo was
Marshall and Katherine Thibodeau's son, but I am still searching. I
love the feeling when you find a record that solves a family mystery.
I love the work that I am doing. It is the work of the Savior and is a
huge part of the Plan of Salvation. I am so glad I am serving in the
Family and Church History Headquarters Mission. I love the people I
work with at the Vault. I work in one of the very few places in the
world that I would be safe from a nuclear war. It is 100% Bomb proof
and everything proof. I serve at the Granite Mountain Records Vault.
It is such an honor to be able to work at the GMRV because only six
young elders in the whole world get the opportunity to serve there at
one time. Well I am doing great and I am working hard. I hope all is
well on the home front. I am glad to see that Molly is doing Fantastic!
She looks Great! Thank you for your support. I love you all. Thank you
for everything you do.

I am doing pretty good. I am struggling because one of my best friends on the mission got sent home this week. It is hard to understand why but I am still striving to do my best and be the best missionary I can be. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve on a mission. It is a proselyting mission according to our new mission president who I LOVE and support in everything he says and does. I know that he is called of God. I know that times are hard in life but we need to work through those challenges. I know that I am called to serve in the FCHH Mission for a purpose and a reason that I may not know but I know one thing is that I am here to serve the Lord. I am so proud of my little brothers and their example to me. I know that they will be great missionaries someday. I hope you are all well and working hard back in Boise. I love you all. Tell Molly hi for me. I love my Waldo Beast.

I'm doing pretty good. Well I can't really tell you what I do at the vault but I can tell you what I wear. I wear a redcap shirt so like my diesel shirt and my Dickie's pants. It takes about 25-35 minutes to get there. It's pretty cool because they are completely renovating the vault right now actually they start doing it on Monday. I love the humidifier but my companion messes with it like every ten seconds its really annoying I have told him to stop but he doesn't listen. I love you and thank you for your support.

July 13, 2013

I am doing great! My new companion is a challenge to get in study time with and he doesn't really want to follow the rules.  He  thinks most of the rules are stupid. I am still working with him because I know that I was in that position once and my leaders never gave up on me. I will keep working with him. I am wondering if anyone wants to throw in some money or "steaks" for our party on the 24th of July. We are having a party for all of the young elders. Grandpa could bring his barbecue down and throw us a party. Only if he wants to though. He is welcome to according to Elder Andersen the New young missionary director. I'm sure President Workman will be there so they could talk to each other.
I am so proud of Colton for Starting and Finishing the mile Swim.
I have been working extremely hard to set an example to Elder Tanner and I am following all of the mission rules. I am working hard . I have 8 tickets to the Pioneer Day Concert. I also have an interview with President Workman on Tuesday. So I will let you know if I can have a bike on the mission next Saturday.
I love you guys and thank you so much for your prayers and support.

  • What are your responsibilities as a trainer? Show him and teach him all of the rules and to set a good example.
  • Tell me about your new companion. Well he is from Pleasant Grove, Utah and we are pretty much complete opposites. I am working hard to make him have fun. he has his challenges,  but I am working with him.
  • Who are the other Elders in your apartment and where are they from? New Jersey and Pleasant Grove as well.

I am training so I am very busy so I will keep it short this week.  I am doing great and am working hard. I love you guys and thank you so much for your support. Love you

I have had a great week and I had a amazing experience. My iPod broke and it wasn't turning on. I said a prayer to my heavenly father and he turned it on for me because when I said amen it was sitting on my desk fixed and turned on.It was amazing. I found out some sad news today that my dog isn't doing good and she is sick. I just want her to know that I love her so much and I want her to go to heaven with Misty and Dezi and play fetch and swim all she want's and chase all of the birds and squirrels she want's without being restricted by her health. If you see any squirrels before she is gone shoot them with the bb gun off the fence so she can enjoy herself one more time. I love you molly and I will miss you. I hope all is well in Boise. I am doing great but I am sad about my dog. Everything is good here in Salt Lake City. I love you guys so much and I know that you are treating my dog well. Thanks for your support.

June 15, 2013

I am doing great and I am working hard.  How is molly doing? I hope you are treating her well. I love her so much. I love you too mom and dad. I hope all is well. I have not found any more family names but I found Mary Elizabeth Thibodeau's first husband. She had several, at least 3, plus David Gonyer. So now i am trying to find Leo.

What does reimaging mean? putting a modified windows image so in other words Microsoft windows for family history centers. I help build the windows image and then I install it to the computer. We have a different image for each different model of computer we get. We have about 8 different models. but the good thing is we dont have to build the image for each different computer.  Its just like going through and restoring a hard drive but you do that and put a different windows image on it.
Do you have an evening assignment? yes access services. its in the Family History Library. I shelve the books that the patrons use.

I'm struggling a little bit. I want to go to the lake so bad that it's now in the 100's every day now.  There will be plenty of time for that when I get back. Tell grandpa to have the boat ready for me and not winterize it until i get to go wakeboarding next fall. I met someone in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building that is from a ward where Elder Jacob Farnsworth is serving in Southern California. Also, last Saturday, I met Jessie Kate's boyfriend's dad/ bishop. I love you and thank you for your support.
I GOT UP AT OR BEFORE 6:30 AM ALL WEEK NOW I'M AT 10 DAYS

Elder Scott and Elder Bednar announced my new president. I sat 4-5 feet from them.

  • Born 1940
  • Baptized as a child; Aaronic Priesthood as a youth; Melchizedek Priesthood as a young man
  • Missionary to Southern States Mission 1960-1962
  • Married to Katherine Evelyn Meyers 1962, Logan Utah Temple; four children
  • BS Chemistry, Juris Doctor, University of Utah; Career as Patent Attorney
  • Counselor to Bishop, Bishop, High Councilor
  • President of Hawaii Honolulu Mission
  • Second Quorum of the Seventy 2001-2007
  • President of the Laie Hawaii Temple 2007-2012

In 1960, Ross Workman, a young high school graduate who, on graduation night became engaged to be married, was about to leave after priesthood meeting when he heard a knock on his car window. The young man was just beginning to increase his activity in the Church and attended meetings through the influence of his attractive fiancee and her family. He had twice refused his bishop's invitation to serve a full-time mission.
As he rolled down his window, stake President Jack R. Prince "put his head right into the car, right next to my nose. He didn't say hello. He just said one thing: 'I've been inspired to ask you one more time to go on a mission,' " recalled now Elder H. Ross Workman, sustained March 31, 2001 to the Second Quorum of the Seventy.
"Powerfully impressed beyond my present ability to describe, I said, 'I'll go.' That was my first experience with things of the Spirit."
A few minutes later his fiancee, Kaye Meyers, climbed into his car wearing "one of those pouffy skirts like they used to wear, with her hair done up in a pony tail — I used to think she was the most beautiful girl in the world, and I haven't stopped thinking that." She slid into the car next to him. Instead of driving away, however, he put his hands on the steering wheel and looked straight ahead. Then he told her, without looking at her, that there wouldn't be a marriage that year because he was going on a mission.
"She was starting to cry, and then she said those critical words: 'I will support you, and I'll be here when you get back.' "
That event was the first of many callings that changed their lives. He filled a successful mission in the Southern States Mission and they were later married in the Logan Utah Temple.
He eventually received a juris doctorate from the University of Utah and became a leading patent attorney with national clients in technology, electronics and medical products around the United States. He was a founding partner in the largest patent firm between Chicago and Los Angeles and was a board member and officer of the American Intellectual Property Association. He was also a delegate to the World Intellectual Property Organization and served as a member of the Committee of Experts for Harmonization of International Patent Laws in Geneva, Switzerland. Elder Workman and his wife have just returned from Hawaii where he presided over the Hawaii Honolulu Mission.
Elder Workman considered his service one of many great adventures that have highlighted his life. His adventures began in childhood when and he and his younger brother rode the train, unescorted but watched over by a well-instructed porter, to visit their grandmother, who lived in the woods in Washington State.
In Washington the boys played in hollows and floated on homemade rafts on ponds. They accompanied their remarkable grandmother on many exciting excursions. "That filled me with a great spirit of adventure that has never really left," he said.
Sister Workman grew up with a testimony of the gospel. "There was always a lot of faith in my home and I naturally held that faith," she said. "My learning about the gospel has been to study things in more depth, not to question if something is right or wrong. I feel I have been extra blessed for that."
After their marriage in December 1962, he completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry and worked as a medical technologist. An opportunity to work in the patent department at the university influenced him toward law and away from a planned career in biomedicine. While in law school he was called as first counselor in a bishopric. About the same time, their first baby was born.
"We decided to follow the counsel of the prophet, that is, for the mother to stay home and raise the children," he said.
He began working 40 hours and "we had a lot of tight financial months" but were "able to pay for our education as we went along."
After graduating, he was employed by Strong, Poelman & Fox to found a patent practice. After 12 years that patent practice had grown to eight attorneys, but with the consent of his partners, he pursued his dream of establishing his own firm. He and others started Workman, Nydegger & Jensen, which soon extended to a national scope with multi-national clients and had 30 full-time attorneys and 110 employees.
"My specialty was patent infringement litigation," he said.
He was in his downtown Salt Lake City office — that overlooks the Church Administration Building — admiring the flowers in the adjoining gardens when he received a telephone call from "somebody named Elder Hales."
"It can't be 'the Elder [Robert D.] Hales,' he said, "but I better talk to him just in case.' "
Soon he and his wife were seated in that Church Administration Building, being called to preside over the mission in Hawaii.
"It was a really big shock when he accepted his first mission call," said Sister Workman. "I was just as shocked when he was called to be mission president. In this Church, you get shocked pretty regularly."
Elder Workman smiled at his wife's words. He knows that shocks in this Church soon turn to life-altering blessings of service. "The Lord has directed my life and even under challenging circumstances I know the joy that comes from conforming my will to His will."
Elder Workman was released from the Second Quorum on October 6, 2007 at the 177th Semi-annual General Conference of the Church. At the same time, it was announced that he and his wife had been called to serve as President and Matron of the Laie Hawaii Temple, where they served until 2012.
